Short Trip to Argentina

We arrived in El Calafate on the 19 April and had a good time. El Calafate is a small touristy town which primarily exists to serve the nearby Glaciers and National Park, namely Perito Moreno Glacier. Prices are expensive here but the food was cheaper!

The first hostel that we stayed at we had to be upgraded as according to Phils sensitive nose, the gas heating which ran through the ceiling space beside our room was making it unsafe for staying in. Luckily an upgrade (if you could call it that!) for the night was possible. A fast retreat to a nearby hostel in the morning meant no angry spanish words were spoken.

The Moreno Glacier was certainly a sight. And although the short tour and boat trip broke our budget for the day, it was well worth while. The Glacier is moving at a rate of 2metres every day and so we were lucky (although everyone seems to be lucky) to see multiple avalanches. One of which we saw on the boat and Phil managed to capture the fall on his camera.

Bad thing about El Calafate is the internet - a thousand times slower than Mum´s dial up which was very frustrating when trying to sort out HSBC in the UK!

Arrived back in Puerto Natales this morning, unfortunately had an interesting experience at the border where our fruit (some purchased from Chile) was taken off us. The border between Chile and Argentina is extremely porous so it seems stupid that they are this strict. We are just bitter as our salami went as well.

Diet Coke 1.5l = 6 Argentian Pesos (Approx USD2)

We have also decided to record total travel time of our trip.
Total flying hours to date = 19 hours
Total time on buses to date = 17 hours
Total time on scooter = 3 hours (excluding time in pond)
